Try some quick place-mats for the Fourth of July weekend. You can do these in several hours and grab some red, white, and blue from your fabric stash. Try the same technique for other holidays, just mixing up the fabric colors! Soon you will have a set for each holiday without little effort. Don't have a serger? Adapt to your sewing machine. I did a quick set on the serger and then another on the BERNINA 450. With the sewing machine I was able to substitute some nice decorative stitch patterns instead of the flat lock serger stitch.
I love to bookmark web sites that give me tons of sewing information and free sewing tips and patterns. No matter the level of experience, I always keep learning new techniques AND improving the old ones.
Just browsing through the site will give you some inspiration for the next sewing or quilting project. Pull out some fabric edges for a Selvage Scarf, or find some embroidery designs. I just finished a quilted wall hanging and saved the selvages for the scarf. Can't wait too long for those holiday gifts!
Find some more place mat patterns at this site, and applique, and sew much more! Worth checking out the free patterns.
Whatever your plans for the holiday weekend, take a little time to sew. Enjoy!
