What a fun idea AND so quick and easy. The Quilt in a Mousepad kit came with everything needed to make it, except my mini quilt. The best part isbeing able to quickly change the tiny quilt as I want. As much as I like to change around furniture, that is a plus to me!
I started with just making a scrappy quilt and using the stitch patterns on the BERNINA, I added my personal embellishments. For me, the Open Toe foot works just perfectly with its wide visual area. I can REALLY see what I am doing. My machine does have the 9 mm size, so if you purchase one be sure to watch the width. No sense breaking needles!
At first I reached for the Even Feed Walking foot (roller foot is around here somewhere.....). Worked great, but found my ever ready Open Toe foot did just as well on the heavy vinyl (included in the kit). Nothing more fun than seeing what other feet will do! My BERNINA never lets me down.
The kit comes with a rubber nonslip piece to sew on the back to keep the mousepad in place on the desk, and then just sew around the 3 edges. Leave the top open to slide in the mini quilt. I decided to give mine a zigzag stitch, but a straight stitch will work just fine.
Then on to finishing the quilt edges. I thought about binding around the quilt, and could have certainly done that, but decided to choose a decorative stitch around the edges. Once finished, I slid into my vinyl pouch and was finished! No time at all!
With the actual vinyl nonslip piece done, I can sew more mini quilts to suit my change of taste.
Whatever you do with your machine, just have fun!
