If you are like me, you have some comfy sweaters that have certainly seen much better days!
In about 10 minutes, using the BERNINA 1300 MDC serger, I up-cycled an oversized cable sweater into a nice comfy shrug.
First I cut the entire zipper off. Save for later and use in another project (perfectly nice zipper!). Serge the raw edge closed (all my serging is in dark pink so you can see - much better to match colors on this project).
Measure from the bottom about 13 inches and cut across. Actually left with a VERY short sweater which can become another project. Serge the raw edge of this "bottom tube".
Used a 3-thread, differential of 1.5 and SL of 3
Measure in from the sides about 7 inches. Pin (keep edges even, unlike mine right now). I could have serged this area closed, but headed over to the BERNINA Aurora for a quick straight stitch. Sew between the pins.
Turn right side out, slide arms into armholes and you are finished! Ready to wear.
Think will try next time in a very lightweight sweater. Could also be done by sewing a long tube from any stretchy fabric. Hmmm.... have some lacy stretch that needs used.....
