What Needle Should I Use?

The needle eye should be 40% larger than your thread diameter.

Needle size 75/11 or 80/12 for 40 weight fabric.

Needle size 90/14 or 100/16 for 30 weight fabric.

Remember, a sharp point is much better for elastic (not a ballpoint).

The best information comes to you from Schmetz. They have a very extensive listing and explation of which needle is best suited to each job.

Every try the Wing Needle? also called Hemstitch

You will have a wonderful time! Explore your machine's stitch patterns for the hemstitching you prefer.

Use your Wing Needle to create the holes for your crocheted edges. Remember the lovely crochet on the ends of hankerchiefs and dresser scarves? Place the needle in your machine, and without any thread, run through your fabric. This creates perfect holes for small crochet or even tatting. I use the largest size Wing Needle for optimum holes. When crocheting, I use every third hole.

The end has a wide flange on each side. This penetrates your fabric and creates the larger hole. Be sure the flange fits in the hole of your needle plate. Create some lovely decorative stitching using your machine's patterns and a wing needle. You will have a fabulous time just exploring the possibilities!

We do sell several sizes -

Another great web page about sewing machine needles can be found on this page at fabric.net. Great information about which needle type and size to use on various fabrics.

Enjoy!
