Use this wonderful new darning/embroidery/quilting foot with your low shank machines.
Fits all low shank sewing machines. This is one of the best types I carry.

Release lever in the back allows you to ease quilts under the foot quite easily!

Try pearl thread or metallic for some decorative effects! Go a step more, change the threads in your bobbin (and yes, you might need to change the tension at tad to accommodate). You will achieve beautiful results.
For smaller projects, I will hand wind my embroidery threads (heavier cottons) around a vintage wooden spool to use as my top thread.
