Fits low shank sewing machines, and snap-on low shank. This foot attaches to the presser bar using your screw. Remove your regular presser foot and attach. Select a zigzag stitch, reduce the tension, set stitch width from 3.0 to 3.5.
Adding fringe to the edge of your fabric
To prevent your threads from tangling, use a scrap piece of fabric, tear-away stabilizer, or wash-away stabilizer butted next to your fabric to be fringed.
Butt the edges together and center under the fringe foot.
If using scrap fabric or the tear away stabilizer, gently and carefully pull out the bobbin thread. Make sure the needle thread stays in the fabric. When using the wash-away stabilizer, this step is unnecessary.
Remove the fringe foot and place your open toe applique foot on.
Adjust stitch width between 2.0 and 3.5. Sew a satin stitch along the fabric edge to secure stitches.
Make a Chenille Stitch
Place tear-away stabilizer under your fabric. Attach the fringe foot and adjust stitch width to about 2.0mm. Begin sewing where you wish.
After finishing the chenille stitch, leave about a 2 inch tail. Pull threads to the wrong side and knot.
A second option is to set your machine stitch at 0 when beginning and ending to secure your threads.
Create Fringe Trim
Place stabilizer under your fabric. Attach the fringe foot. Adjust zigzag stitch between 2.0 & 3.0mm.
Mark your stitching line. Place your foot on the line and sew. It now looks like the chenille stitch.
Remember to secure your threads either with the anchor stitch (set at 0) or pull threads to the back.
Remove the fringe foot and attach the open toe applique foot.
Brush the fringe loops to one side. Place water soluable stabilizer over the loops. This prevents the loops getting caught in the foot.
Set your machine for narrow satin stitch, or a similar decorative stitch. Begin sewing - do not stitch on the stabilizer.
Sew on a button!
Take the fringe foot a step further and sew on a button. Set for a zigzag stitch, and stitch length at 0. Place your button under the foot (tape it down if necessary). Sew 6 or 7 zigzag stitches. Raise the foot. Gently slide the stitches off the center bar of the foot, leaving long tails to tie off with. Pull the button gently up, separating the button and the base fabric to allow the thread shank to "float" between them. Thread a needle and begin wrapping around the thread shank. Tie off. Fray check the ends if necessary.
There are so many sewing options for the fringe foot, and I am sure you will think of a few more!
