No more hand sewing of your buttons when using Singer's nifty button foot.
For all Singer slant, zigzag machines.
The Singer Button Sew-On Foot is a handy tool for sewing buttons with your zigzag sewing machine.
Now why did I include the Singer 301 in this listing? It is certainly not a zigzag. Read on and you will see.
As a button foot, place your button under the foot, set your zigzag stitch to match the width of the two holes.
Take several small stitches in one hole to set your stitch, then begin your zigzag. When done, revert back to straight stitch and take a couple of small stitches once again in the other hole to set your stitch. Voila! Done!
The button foot has a groove to accomodate any tool for sewing a shank button.
I usually place a needle in the groove and begin sewing as usual. This creates that shank I need.
Now for the fun! Using my Singer 301, I threaded cording through the hole just as I would if using an Invisible Braiding foot.
Keeping the cording loose and flowing easily, I also adjusted my presser and stitch length to match.
Before long, I was creating an invisible stitch with lovely results.
On to using my all-time favorite - soutache braid! Again, I adjusted the presser and stitch length and make sure I kept the braid flowing.
Begin to sew and your needle catches the braid, just as if you were using an Invisible Braiding foot.
Is this method as good as using the actual Braiding Foot?
It works for me, but of course, whenever you use a foot for its specific purpose you always get the best results.
Just have fun with your attachments! Try something new with the old.
