No adapter needed for Viking, Husqvarna, Janome, New Home
Will also fit Elna, Babylock, Necchi, and some Whites
The Bernina machines require a #75 shank adapter specific to your machine - see your dealer.
The kit comes with 4 fences which allow you to sew your binding perfectly using the stitch-in-the-ditch method. The foot will also allow you to piece your 1/4".
Receive a Fence for garments, low loft, medium loft, and for high loft.
Receive all 6 adapters.
Begin by choosing your shank adapter. For my Singer 301 I used the #3 adapter.
For my table runner I needed Fence #3 for medium loft.
I also needed the screw and the main foot.
The "foot" has your measures from 1/4" to 1". Adjust accordingly for your binding.
I wanted a 1/2" binding on top, so I choose just a tad shy of 1/2" measure.
To get this, I played around with a sample (always recommend testing first).
The instructions explain how to prepare your binding strip. I cut mine 3 1/4", folded it in half, and stitched the raw seam.
Place the Martelli foot on your machine.

Again, use your sample to adjust your stitch length and pressure.
I found I needed to lower the entire foot on the presser bar a bit to get a nice smooth running stitch and the right pressure. I later marked this spot on my foot with a thin marker (will help each time I place it on the machine).

You can see my table runner and the binding are up against the Fence.
I am working from the right side of the table runner.
After sewing the first side, I removed from the machine, mitered my corner, and began the next side.
When finished, I turned the binding to the back and placed under my machine.
Always place the fabric edge against the Fence.
I am now ready to 'stitch-in-the-ditch, catching my back binding at the same time.
The back side -
I removed the Fence and placed on #1 for garments.
Moved my measure to 1/4". I can now topstitch or piece my quilt blocks.
Using the same Fence #1, I added some lace to the edge of fabric.
Instructions are included with the full set. If you need additional instructions just let me know and I will be glad to help.
The instructions do mention using additional Martelli products for mitering your corners and holding the binding and fabric together. You can easily use pins instead of the noted zip clips (unless you have them, and then they are wonderful to use!), and miter as usual instead if you don't have the Minute Miter from Martelli. I have done this both ways - with and without the Minute Miter.
